About Us

Owls Ladies Hockey Club are a club affiliated with Ulster Hockey and were formed in 1925 by a group of students from Belfast Royal Academy.

The Owl symbol comes from the clubs tie with the school and is the school mascot. Owls L.H.C. also play in the schools colours of navy and maroon.

Academy Sports club (Hydepark, Mallusk) was formed in 1975 and along with Owls L.H.C. it includes Academy Rugby Football Club and Academy Cricket Club. Although the club has a strong link to Belfast Royal Academy it is an open club and not restricted to pupils of the school. New members of all ages and abilities are welcomed to the club.

Owls LHC have two senior teams who play their home games on astroturf at Roughfort (B.R.A. playing fields). Our U15s play in the grass roots league at C.I.Y.M.S. and our mini hockey groups are on the gravel at Roughfort every Saturday morning.

We are lucky to have a fantastic coaching team with Nick Johnston as our senior club coach and Stu Wallace who is our goalkeeper coach. Club members Hilary Reid and Rosie Rea organise and coach the U15s with Gemma Davis coaching our mini hockey section.
